The Garment District Drops New 7", Sonic Boom Remix

The Garment District Drops New 7

Jennifer Baron's been hard at work with her synth pop project The Garment District, but had a history before it as a prominent member of The Ladybug Transistor, the Brooklyn-based, Elephant 6-affiliated pop group that called the Marlborough Farms studios their HQ in the '90s.  Because of that, perhaps, she's collaborated with several of the underground's other established veterans with her new project-- like Jowe Head who played bass for her release, Melody Elder.

That trend continues on her latest 7" for La Station Radar, where Sonic Boom of Spacemen 3 has remixed one of the Melody Elder tracks, "Nature-Nurture," for it's A-side. The B-side contains two originals from Baron: the wobbly deep disco of "Miraculous Metal" and eerie, vocal sample-driven interlude, "Vigor." You can stream the "Nature-Nurture" remix below, which adds a weird, galactic coda to the dreamy original.

The Garment District 7" is out October 15th on La Station Radar, available for pre-order now.

The Garment District: "Bird or Bat"

The Garment District:

Earlier this year, Night People released an insane amount of new tapes. Among them was Melody Elder, the debut release from Jennifer Baron's Pittsburgh-based, outsider synth pop project The Garment District, featuring Television Personalities/Swell Maps legend Jowe Head on bass. "Bird Or Bat" is the third track and channels the pentatonic haunts of Broadcast's Tender Buttons in its staggered keyboard melodies and octave-span, dual female vocals. The hyper-real home footage of the new Albert Birney created music video is a perfect fit, playing out like the intimate memories you fondly recall, even while questioning their accuracy.

The Melody Elder CS is available on Night People. This other video for "Nature Nurture," another cut from the album, just got Jennifer named a 2012 Design, Art, and Technology Finalist by The Pittsburgh Technology Council.
