It’s not quite clear when exactly Earl Sweatshirt will release his new album, Doris, but he’s been giving us little sneak peeks to hold us over while we wait. This week, he performed three totally new songs during a Flying Lotus set at L.A.’s Low End Theory. Earl seems unfazed as he raps the first song of the set-- the Pharrell-produced “Burgundy”-- over shrieking fans. The second song, “Hive,” is probably the highlight-- it features Earl’s typical lyrical intricacy laid over a bass-heavy, gloomy track that is typical of the Odd Future sound. “Guild” starts off with a long, surprisingly well-constructed verse by Mac Miller. This guest verse isn’t atypical of the impending album-- Doris is rumored to feature contributions from the likes of Thundercat and other OF crew members.
Next week, Earl releases a new single “Whoa” featuring Tyler, the Creator.
