Takahiro Mukai has only been active for a couple of years now, but he has already produced some of the most confoundingly rhythmic and alluringly mutilated works for modular, left-field electronics. Now returning on Paralaxe Editions, an avant-techno upstart based in Barcelona, the Osaka-based producer brings us SomosanSeppa, a six-song set of warped and fried, acid-obsessed dance tones. "#17M14 - 23" sets the scene with a frenetic blitz of clinical blips and industrialized tribalism. The track perfectly presents Mukai's approach to danceable hysteria with detailed layering and haphazard improvisation. "#146" puts a magnifying glass up to the tenets of acid house, slowing down the BPM to a crawl and smearing each warped tone for dissection and examination. "#061517" and "#139" throb in a frazzled display of malfunctioning elegance, while "062214" carries the torch of Autechre, Chris & Cosey, and other darkly demented progenitors of basement sonics.
SomosanSeppa is out now on Paralaxe Editions.
