Splash are Brooklyn's twisted version of an underground boy band, destined to free minds and shake asses worldwide. Former Real Estate drummer Etienne Duguay and Vibes All-Stars Nick Scheider, Jan Woo, Sasha Desree, and Andre Sellers will eventually fight out whose who in the "the cute one," "the mysterious one" chain of delegation, but for now they move as a pack, locking in tight electronic grooves of slap bass, whispered moans, and delightfully cheeseball synthesis with natural ease in their introductory single "Ever Before." You could call it a million things-- '80s idol worship, funky priesthood, whatever you can muster-- but Splash manage to dive sincerely and seriously into a musical lifeline that's deemed little more than a cheap thrill and erase all name-the-influence chatter in the process.
