Ricardo Donoso: "The Bow and The Lyre"
Multi-instrumentalist and electronic experimentalist Ricardo Donoso threw a massively under-rated curveball with 2011's Progress Chance. His vision of club tunes as blood-pumped and pulsing without an aggressive or intrusive back beat came to life in prime cuts like "The North Quadrant (Ascension)", inverting the usual roles and expectations of techno instrumentation.
His follow-up, Assimilating the Shadow, continues in that vein, marrying the mind exploration of classic kosmische with the unfolding drama of dance music. First taste "The Bow and The Lyre," passes by like clouds at dusk, slowly shuttering a full moon in and out of your sight line. Encircling trails of arpeggiated counterpoint place you in a dark, deliberate realm of solitary after-party musings.
Assimilating the Shadow drops September on DIgitalis Recordings.
