Over the years, DJ/producer Maxmillion Dunbar has made waves heading D.C.-based dance label Future Times, reinvigorating the East Coast house scene locally and abroad. Apart from that label's catalogue and collaborations with Food for Animals and his own group Beautiful Swimmers, Max D released his solo LP, Cool Water, in 2010, mixing new jack swing-era soul and downtempo hip hop into his own established take on dance.
Follow-up album, House of Woo, leans a little deeper into classic house territory while offering a devotional brightness deeply contrasting with Water's blue-hued sense of mystery. Sorta-title track "Woo" released earlier this winter, but now the sensual second single "Loving the Drift" has received a new video by frequent collaborator and Mutual Dreaming curator Aurora Halal, streaming below. Though it's tempting to point to these two artists' deep respect for the greats as grounds for a retro fetish, the combination here is anything and everything but, simultaneously capturing a personal space and a shared consciousness.
House of Woo is out February 18th in the UK and February 19th in US / everywhere else on RVNG Int'l.
