A few years back when Matthewdavid launched Leaving Records with his partner Jesselissa Lisa Moretti, the first release was DISK, "a 2008 collection of the post-psychedelic dynamic" on CD-R's with hand-painted 5 1/4" floppy disks for sleeves. To date, it's one of his rawest (in a good way) collections; he showed off an early versatility its 21 cassette-melt vignettes well before his destined-to-be-classic Outmind, running the gamut from open space ambience to hip-hop mind nodder.
Now, DISK II has dropped in the same format and features a live KXLU performance as well as guest spots from good pals Run DMT, Speculator, and Eola. The amorphous, spiritual collaboration with Eola, "tape5," is available as a free download, and does total justice to MD's disclaimer that urges a deep, focused plunge into its canyon-like ambience regardless of what environment you choose to take the dive from. Also, he's still really good at making whale sounds.
