David Byrne's Luaka Bop label recently announced the release of a William Onyeabor compilation. A purveyor of a unique blend of afrobeat and synth-pop, Onyeabor is an oft-bootlegged and seemingly popular artist in his native Nigeria-- however, he's been relegated to a rarely-heard-but-deeply-beloved cult figure in the western world. This compilation features thirteen career-spanning tracks by Onyeabor, as well as accompanying collaborations with devoted fans like Dam-Funk, Caribou, and many others. For the uninitiated-- which is everyone who doesn't spend exorbitant amounts of time looking for rare African records-- this'll be a welcome introduction to Onyeabor's incredible music. Listen to "Good Name" from the compilation below, and check out his classic track, "When The Going Is Smooth and Good," after the jump.
World Psychedelics 5: Who Is William Onyeabor is out October 15 on Luaka Bop.
