George? George? Someone help Je Suis Le Petit Chevalier figure out where George has been, for crying out loud. For her newest cassette on NNA Tapes, Felicia Atkinson assumes a persona akin to a soul trapped in an old desktop. Credit that to the sputtering pink noise, monotone bass bursts, spic-and-span drones, and most prevalently, lyrics. The poetry employed stands as a particularly engaging human element in the work, with the short phrases of vocal melody lulling the listener into a quiet place. Those Vermillion Sands is a profound testament to the fact that cold timbres and alienating noises can often lead to deep, psychedelic beauty. Mark this as another high accomplishment for Atkinson in the year 2013, as her label Shelter Press has released exemplary work by Chicaloyoh, Keith Fullerton Whitman, Floris Vanhoof, and Terence Hannum.
