J. Zagers: “Key Conduction” Video

Earlier this year, Savannah, GA imprint Soft Science issued Chu’s Musings Trill, a sprawling cassette boxed-set collecting three out-of-print works by Jeff Zagers: Chu’s Blues (on I Just Live Here), Fold, The Tale of Table (on Stay Away From Ghosts) and Key Conduction (on Human Conduct). The compilation serves both as a sort of opus for the southern outsider’s grotesquely beautiful take on synth-pop and a survey of a songwriter who’s spent a considerable amount of time in projects that stray far away from his solo work: namely with Gillette and Female Topics. The video for “Key Conduction” aggregates a series of modestly blighted and disoriented images, all under the direction of Rick Weaver’s darkly guileless hand. Sonically, the track highlights Zagers’ undeniably moving balladry, delivering utmost sincerity with any shoddy Casio at hand.
