Maximillion Dunbar Preps 12"

Maximillion Dunbar Preps 12

With their old school flavor that's rife with mystery and their positive party vibes, D.C.'s Future Times has stayed one of the most reliably impressive dance labels of the last several years. Maxmillion Dunbar, a member of the Beautiful Swimmers who helps run the label with Protect-U's Mike Petillo, has been a roster stalwart throughout-- his Outrageous Soulz / Dreamerzzz 7" was FT's first release-- but the forthcoming Orgies of The Hemp Eaters 12" will be his first for the imprint in almost a year. Up on FT's soundcloud is a mix made by D himself previewing the whole record: "Orgies of The Hemp Eaters", its Terekke remix, and "Slick", the B-side.

The title track bangs crisp and clean-- the strategy here is precise, mechanized house bouncing with a cloud of purple haze to keep lids low and the vibe far away from aggro. Terekke, one of Brooklyn's finest from L.I.E.S., mixes the coloring up and throws a translucent smudge across the sub-shattering bass, rendering the scene behind a strobe light in your bedroom. The contrast of "Slick" is the greatest, however, with ample negative space between the razor-sharp claps, sparse tambourine, and that synth's infinitely twisted sentence.

Orgies of The Hemp Eaters will drop on wax and digital June 2012 on ("things will be better in…") Future Times
