With the release of Rashad's Hyperdub debut thundering beneath the horizon, little trickles of it are beginning to emerge. Non-EP track "Can't Hold Me Back", which rockets a loop of Rick Ross' "Hold Me Back" into the stratosphere over a start-stop kick-rimshot combo, the voice of Ross slowly getting worn down. With Rollin, Rashad is forcing footwork to grow up, pushing the genre into more garage, experimental, and personal directions, but with "Can't Hold Me Back" Rashad tips the hat to his origins and the foundation his music-- which is only getting better-- was built upon. Drums, please.
Rollin is out March 18 on Hyperdub.
