Deep Time: "Clouds"
The Austin-based duo of keys player/guitarist Jennifer Moore and drummer Adam Jones has been honing an inimitable blend of pop economy and counterintuitive songwriting for over half a decade now. They recently changed their name from YellowFever to Deep Time, and are releasing a self-titled LP on Sub Pop imprint Hardly Art in June. Album single "Clouds", which debuted on Gorilla vs. Bear this morning, is a triumph of husky vocals, galloping rhythms, and unforeseen melodic turns. Maybe I'm just struck by how far they can run with such a hyper-limited sound palette, but no matter what is going on in music, these guys never sound quite like anyone else in the game.
Deep Time drops July 10 on Hardly Art.
