From Burger Records comes a new single by Vancouver band, Dead Ghosts. The garage band recorded their last album in a studio, but for their upcoming release, Can't Get No, they found a Tascam 388 8-track on Craigslist and used it to record songs in various spots around Vancouver: bars, kitchens, basements. First single, "Roky Said," was inspired by Roky Erickson and incorporates his lyrics, but is more generally about "being left behind." For such depressing subject matter, "Roky Said" is musically very upbeat, with explicitly sixties style phrasing that fades in and out with more modern garage rock elements.
Can't Get No is out April 30 on Burger Records.
