A firm believer in following his dreams, Colin Stetson brings us the third installement of his awe-inspiring New History Warfare series with New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light. Volume 2 functioned as a showcase for his strange brand of saxophone virtuosity, seeing him shred his way into the spotlight. Yet "High Above A Grey Green Sea" indicates that his blaringly idiosyncratic approach to the instruments can be channeled into something besides cathartic noodling. Stetson never shied away from studio magic, but between the vocals and the nuanced sax mantra, it becomes obvious that Stetson is intent on wearing the composer hat. As a beautifully produced nugget from a singular mind, this volume of New History Warfare will find a fitting home on Constellation Records.
