Veteran minimal techno producer Andy Stott has been slowly deconstructing his sound since his first releases for Modern Love in 2005, and he's now finally arrived at a point where his sonic gun has turned almost completely inward. His forthcoming full-length, Luxury Problems, opens with the pulsing, maddeningly beautiful "Numb". The song is patient in how slowly it unfolds, with whispering female vocals overlapping on top of each other as a slow drone falls in and out of the mix. A reversed kick comes in and "Numb" practically explodes into widescreen. It's gorgeous stuff, and a promising direction for Stott to take.
Luxury Problems is out October 29th on Modern Love.
