Amen Dunes: "Ethio Song"

Amen Dunes:

Our 100th post goes out to Amen Dunes pondering Ethiopian pop. This is the first we've heard of the haze-rockers since last year's Through Donkey Jaw on Sacred Bones-- astute ears may even recognize it from the Ad Hoc comp we dropped last week. One third of a 7" of unattributed Ethiopian music, "Ethio Song" only implies the ecstatic boogie rhyhms of acts like Mahmoud Ahmed with the loose lock of dual, echoing guitars. But this is not a cover as much as a translation, Damon McMahon's vocals diluted by enough reverb that it's impossible to know if he's singing the song's original tongue or English words that bear only an emotional relation.

The Ethio Covers 7" is available now straight from Amen Dunes.
